The Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop: Move From Trust to Loyalty
Few would argue that trust is the foundation of any great organization. There are two interdependent dynamics that create Trust Based Relationships; Competence and Compatibility. Simply stated we trust people that are talented at what they do and or we trust people we have a strong relationship with.
Our competencies are those abilities we acquire as we develop our technical skills. Experience comes when we apply our learned skills under pressure.
It is the combination of our skill and experience that determines our level of Talent that others learn to trust.
Compatibility is established through Clear Communication. Acquaintances occur when we first meet somebody and join in idle conversation. If a positive first impression is established we may begin to broaden our conversations looking for common interests in hopes of developing a Friendship. A relationship grows through a friendship that discovers they share common values.
Loyalty happens at the intersection of Talent and Relationships. While trust may help you win the battle, it’s Loyalty that usually wins the war.
What is a Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop?
It has been our experience that most organizations have adequate technical, skill based, training but few provide an adequate amount of people-skills training. People-skills being at the heart of trust which leads to effective teamwork. Many of the interpersonal problems that diminish teamwork can be avoided or solved through an effective people-skills training program.
Our Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop is the perfect solution.
Teamwork is the heart and soul of an organization, family or relationship and breathes life and creativity into your organization. Our Platinum Rule Team Building Workshop is designed to create a new level of teamwork awareness, not only in management, but in every member of your team.
Behavioral differences make life fascinating but often frustrating especially where teamwork is involved. Most of us never figure out why we “click with some people and clash with others.” Our Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop is a proven, way to take charge of your compatibility with others, to build instant rapport with anyone you meet, making relationships mutually beneficial instead of a contest of wills. A product of psychological research practical application The Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop is a proven method of connecting with anyone at work, home or socially. We teach you how to communicate with people the way they are comfortable listening and to lead people in ways that are comfortable for them to follow.
Most everyone has heard of The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” When it comes to morals, values and ethics there is no higher code of conduct but as a communication strategy, it has a downside. If applied verbatim, it can actually cause personality conflicts. Following The Golden Rule literally, “treating others the way you’d like to be treated” implies, that what I want and need is exactly what you want and need. Treating others the way you want to be treated can turn off those who have different needs and wants. Instead, we suggest honoring the real intent of The Golden Rule by slightly modifying this age old axiom.
Applying The Platinum Rule®: “Do unto others as they’d like done unto them” means, to clearly understand your own personal communication preferences, take the time to identify the preferences of other people and adapt your behavior to make them feel more at ease in order to develop Trust Based Relationships.
Learn the Four Behavioral Styles that Apply to Everyone
The Platinum Rule® simply says this: Each person has their own habits and their own way of communicating their thoughts and ideas to the world. Those recurring communication habits fall into one of four predictable patterns, known as Behavioral Styles. Each of us telegraphs our Behavioral Style Verbally, in the words we choose, Vocally, through the intonation of our voice, and Visually, in the body language we display.
Learning the technique of identifying these four behavioral styles can easily be learned in the morning and immediately be put to use, building trust based relationships, that afternoon.
A Profound Team-Building Experience
Whether your team is an executive management group, a collection of employees, an athletic team coaching staff or your entire organization, we customize a highly effective Platinum Rule Team-Building Workshop to meet your needs.
Our workshops go much deeper than typical classroom training on the principles of teamwork. We immerse participants in a team-building experience. Team members get to know each other in new ways, and new connections are formed. The assessments and exercises open new dimensions of understanding and empathy. Participants gain deep insights about teamwork, through the fun activities, training and team interaction, that would not be possible through simply being exposed to new information about teamwork.
What is Included
Your Platinum Rule Team Building Workshop can be integrated into a conference, retreat, annual meeting, company function… or it can be a standalone training event. You can schedule your team-building workshop at your site or in an off-site location of your choice, such as a nearby hotel, resort or meeting facility. We work with you to plan the details, and we provide the training facilitation and team-building activities. The process begins one week prior to the workshop, when each participant logs in to our Superior Performance Coaching survey website to take an online DISC Behavioral Style survey. The survey only takes 10-15 minutes to complete and the participant immediately receives their results in a 27 page report in PDF format. The assessments are highly personalized, and they set the stage for personal involvement in the training process. Click here to view a sample report
DISC Assessments: Amazing Accuracy, Profound Personal Insights
Our DISC online assessment is an invaluable behavior profiling system that teaches users how to identify— and use to their advantage—the predictable aspects of communication. Based on the research of Dr. William Moulton Marston, DISC is the most widely used behavior profiling tool of its kind, supported by decades of research and validation. Whether you’re the member of a large or small organization, our DISC reports offer the greatest accuracy for a range of dynamic business application.
Most people are amazed as they begin reading their DISC assessments. “How do they know all this about me?” The assessment begins with a 2 page narrative describing the individual’s general behavioral traits, primarily in the workplace. The sections that follow outline the individual’s communication strengths, potential areas for improvement, workplace motivations, a personalized communication plan for adaptability as well as insights about the differences in their self-perception and how others tend to see them.
The DISC assessment is a behavioral survey not a personality test. The difference being that our behavior describes “How” we prefer to communicate our thoughts and ideas with the world whereas our personality defines “Why” we came up with our thoughts and ideas in the first place. More simply put, behavioral is observable and predictable where personality is not.
While no personality assessment is 100% accurate, the participants in our workshops consistently tell us that they are at least 90% accurate. Often, when participants show their assessments to spouses, significant others, family members, friends and co-workers, they are told that the assessment is not just somewhat accurate, but totally accurate.
You will find that during the week prior to the DISC training workshop, co-workers will immediately begin sharing the insights from their assessments, which builds enthusiasm and anticipation for the workshop.
During the workshop, participation is dramatically increased as a result of the assessments. We continually receive comments that the learning experience has a profound effect on the lives of participants – not just at work, but in their personal lives. Many participants request assessments for their family members so they can extend the experience to their loved ones.
As an additional bonus, the team leader also receives a custom graph that plots each of the team members on the DISC wheel. This report highlights where there is potential conflict between team members with suggestions on how to resolve those conflicts if they arise. It also includes a Leadership Guide with complete instruction on how to communicate, develop, motivate, complement, correct and or discipline each of the four behavioral styles.
Team Size
We have conducted The Platinum Rule Team Building Workshop with as many as 50 participants and with as few as one participant. The smaller the group, the more personalized attention each participant will receive. Participants often have specific questions about their DISC profiles, and a smaller group size makes it easier for Greg to field all questions. We have found that groups of 30 and under are optimal for personal attention and interaction. Regardless of group size, everyone is engaged in interaction through open-forum discussions, group exercises and activities.
The Platinum Rule Workshop can also being effectively conducted for small groups of four or less in a virtual format. We use Joinme.com as our computer screen share platform to facilitate the meeting. All you need on your end is a computer screen or flat screen TV large enough for all the participants to comfortably see.
Workshop Length
Our most popular format is a full-day workshop. A full day allows Greg to include significant focus on a specific area of interest, such as interpersonal communication, conflict management or leadership skills. A half-day workshop is plenty of time to cover behavioral styles, basic communication and teamwork.
The small group virtual workshop usually last about 2 hours.
